Thank you to those who have confirmed their appointment time for annual accounts preparation in January or February 2012, we are looking forward to visiting with you.

Just a reminder that when you set up a new Financial Manager application for 2012, you will need to take into consideration any cheques that remain unpresented as at 31 December 2011.  For those of you paying your accounts via Electronic Funds Transfer this won’t be an issue.  For those who pay by cheque it would be a good idea to  follow up on any unpresented cheques now and try to limit the number of cheques written out late in the year.  There is a tip sheet on our website to assist with the January bank reconciliation.

For schools who use Student Manager, Sonya, Mary, Sue and Jude are currently making appointments for the End of Year Rollover and Consolidation in both 2011 and 2012.  Please click  SM EOY to download the request form to arrange a visit.

Remote Access Servers – Want to access your MUSAC software away from the office or from home! A Remote Access Server (RAS) allows you to sit at your home with your Windows or Mac computer and access your school network and run programmes such as Microsoft Word and ClassRoom Manager. SMART Computers outlines the idea of Remote Access, the technologies involved, and the costs. Click here for their information sheet or click here for the Edtech hosting option.

Backing up Financial Manager
A number of schools now rely on taped back ups of their server, usually taken overnight.  These back ups take a copy of your Financial Manager programme, however, they do not rebuild and compress your database. Rebuilding of your database is essential, If you do not back up using the Financial Manager back up programme, the database will become a very large, disjointed file and you may experience slower screen changes, locking up, and eventually you may be unable to access your database.

We recommend at least once a week you go to Back Up / Restore / Rebuild and choose the Rebuild option to keep your database as a tidy, compressed file.
